Tedd George comments on telcos becoming banks, digital crowdfunding platforms across Africa and the use of data to build digital identities and credit histories in John Everington’s article in ‘The Banker’.
“Telcos have increasingly advanced offerings for their own digital wallet services. It’s going to get more and more difficult when it comes to digital banking to tell the difference between a telco and a bank.”
“Crowdsourcing is as African as okra, but now you can digitalise the process (e.g. M-Changa and Matontine). The formalisation, or rather digitalisation, of informal networks could prove a big challenge to traditional banks.”
